Welcome to The Backyard Gastropub, a family-friendly pub in Whatawhata — just 7 minutes west of Hamilton on the road to Raglan.

Since the 1800s, we’ve been serving the Waikato community as the Whatawhata Hotel, the Bridge Hotel, Whatawhata Tavern, The Backyard Bar & Eatery, and today as The Backyard Gastropub. For nearly 160 years, we’ve been the local hub where friends, families, and travellers come together to relax, enjoy a drink, and share good times.

Today, we’re more than just a pub. We’re a Hamilton gastropub with great food, live music, and plenty of space for family dining, celebrations, and casual catchups.
